For over 15 years, Aminata has been telling her story, that sadly mirrors millions of voiceless women and young girls whose lives are destroyed by sexual violence in war zones and countless refugees that are displaced.
Her voice of change for mothers and babies in Sierra Leone and for underrepresented people everywhere is something she is heartily passionate about.
Aminata has suffered unimaginable horrors and been subjected to the cruellest acts of humanity, in 1999, Sierra Leone was in the midst of a brutal civil war where mindless violence, vicious amputation and the rape of young enslaved women were the everyday weapons of bloody conflict. It was also where rebel soldiers snatched the young Aminata Conteh-Biger from her father’s arms, then held her captive for months.
Now, she is dedicated to restoring dignity to humanity through being a voice for underrepresented people everywhere and as the Founder and CEO of Aminata Maternal Foundation, which aims to end maternal and infant deaths in Sierra Leone, a country that is the most dangerous place to give birth. One in 17 women die during childbirth, while in Australia it is one in 8,700.
